How to drive safely in the snow and icy conditions with snow chains

Snow chains are very beneficial, especially in the snow and icy conditions that one could find in South Africa and Lesotho regions. Whether you are in a car or 4×4 you can lose traction on the snow or ice very easily. When drivers are not properly equipped to drive on the snow or ice, it could lead to loss of traction between tyre and road surface and the inability to steer the vehicle.

You can only use snow chains when there is a good layer of compacted snow or ice. Driving on a road that has been cleared may cause damage to both the vehicle and the road. Driving too fast with the snow chains could cause them to fail, the recommended maximum speed when driving with snow chains is 30 to 50km/h.

All our chains are manufactured from case harden rim link chain. The chains are designed for easy fitment and can be used on both sides of the vehicle. The more chain you have the more traction you will have. Over the past few years we have had great success with the Grip V Chains and would suggest that a customer views these chains as a potential option.
